Umi in Chester

My shrimp 🦐 was overcooked. I gave the benefit of a doubt and went again. The salmon was overcooked. The taste of hibachiIt was a bit bland to me. No matter how much yum yum sauce, it was still bland.

Great as always! Fast, friendly service. Good food and good portions. I loveee their Gyoza. And for a small town japanese place, their sushi is pretty dang good.

Odd as it seems for a small town like Chester, but this place has some of the best sushi I've ever had.It's small and parking is impossible at peak times. The place isn't good for groups because there's only one large table. But the food is absolutely worth the visit. I've not been there yet and had a bad meal.

Not publicized. Not in eye's view. Spent lunch with my daughter and a friend there. Sushi rolls were good. Plum was dynamite. Yummy to my tummy. Definitely going back

Absolutely wonderful food with a Lot of great choices. Sushi was fresh & phenomenal. Soup was amazing. Hibachi steak & shrimp was just as amazing. Can't wait to come back whenever I am in the area. You must try them!!!

Food is good but staff is always unfriendly and orders are always mixed up or wrong

As a chef i like to go out and experience new foods and asian cuisine has always been my favorite. Umi's has some of the best hibachi iv ever had.

Thanks to the other Google reviewers I took a chance on this place for a friend’s birthday lunch and it was amazing. The service was quick, our server was friendly and knowledgeable and gave great recommendations. The sushi was delicious and fresh, the egg drop soup was light and yummy and the hibachi portions are fantastic. I didn’t want to stop eating. The restaurant was really quaint and not crowded at all. The takeout however was popping off and people were always in and out quickly. No one I saw waited more than 5 or 10 minutes for an order. This is definitely the best sushi in Chester, might even be the best Japanese food in SC.

Foods always been great. Portions are large. Place is often busy for a reason.

Very disappointed. Drove 30 min from Rock Hill to Chester just to get food from Umi. We have eaten there a dozen times. Got home, and we were missing 1 whole meal.. and all the boxes were shoved into 1 bag to the point it squished the ones on the bottom and the sauce spilled all in the bottom of the bag. Not to mention the steak was bland and the chicken tasted awful! Definitely disappointed!!!!

Delicious food but service is hit and miss. Most of the time we have to get up and refill our own drinks but I think they're just understaffed. One girl was the only one answering the phone and waiting tables when we went yesterday between 4 & 5:30. Not once were we checked on after getting our food to see if there was anything we needed. Better service would get them 5 stars considering it's Chester and not many good eating places to chose from. Spicy crab roll and the hibachi chicken and shrimp are my favorites. Get take out if poor service irritates you but you definitely should try it. You won't be disappointed with the food.

Another one of these no competition places that gets 4 stars by default. Where else you getting your chester sushi from? Where else serves Japanese? Is it good .. absolutely .. if this was larger area with more competition would be solid 3. Customer service a great plus for here. Sushi is regular stuff but can be creative if you ask them to be. Japanese food here is great prices a little up compared to what I'm used to but not outrageous. Hard to not give it a 5 but .. if it was in a bigger setting would be normal japanese place in town.. to me anyways.. SUSHI is why you would come here.. period..

Delicious. Hibachi shrimp, chicken, steak, and scallop. Great portion. Yum Yum sauce was yummy. Great prices too.

I used to love this place. I was always surprised that there was a decent sushi restaurant in Chester. Too bad they’ve gone down hill. The quality of the food and service couldn’t get much worse. It would be nice if they would at least answer the phone when they claim to be open online. Oh well.

What a joke, they can't even make sushi rice properly, Not sure what ocean the fish come from, and the only reason they're in Chester is because they couldn't compete anywhere else. Eat at your risk.

Good Food At REASONABLE PRICE

Surprisingly good hibachi grill and sushi. Not the kind of hibachi grill where they cook in front of you, but great food at a reasonable price.

The taste was phenomenal would recommend my oldest teen liked it and my youngest son loved it great for the whole family ❤️

For small town Chester, the food is not only surprisingly good (sushi as well as entree's) but the portions are so large, rarely do we walk out without to-go container. The price points are reasonable and the staff is friendly. Only reason I dockedd a star is the atmosphere is abysmal. Not enough seating and staff trudging by the narrow walkway with mop bucket and such.

Wow. Food and service was awesome. Very pleased with our lunch. Prices are great and it was fast. I barely ever leave a review but this plave definitely deserves one.

Pleasantly surprised. We just moved to the area and love sushi but didn't expect there to be anything decent in Chester. Had to try this place out because of the great ratings! Food came fast and sushi was refreshing!

Me and my boyfriend both had reservations about eating here, but we are so glad we did. One of the best places we have eaten at. Only one place stands up to the food in sheer taste, but the atmosphere is much better. We also got a lot of food for the price. The only issue I have with it is the location, being in the direct opposite direction of where we usually go out. But if we just want some good food, we'll be coming back here.

Great food most of the time but absolutely horrible customer service. I ordered sashimi and it was froze solid. I asked the chef( he's also the owner) if I could possibly get some that wasn't frozen. He stated that in the summer time they keep it frozen so it will last longer?!?! What?? Its fresh, raw fish. I have lived all over the US and have never received frozen sashimi. He said gw wouldn't charge me and would bring me a new order. After eating I went to pay for mt soda and he charged me for my lunch. I asked him why he was charging me after telling me it was comp and he said since he remade it for me he had to charge me. Unsat! I've lived here 5 years and We eat at UMI 2-3 times a week. Never again .He was rude and unprofessional and I will never eat there again.

Sushi? Yes. Japanese noodles? Yes. Terrific spring rolls? Wow. This is some wonderful Japanese cuisine.

This is a favorite place to eat and a small town. The food is prepared within sight of the diners. The food is always fresh, served hot, and always perfect.
